Course Overview:
This course will review techniques and treatment solutions focused on addressing spinal disease through anterior access of the spine. The course format includes didactic lectures, case discussions with expert faculty, and hands-on bioskills training. The curriculum emphasizes biomechanical considerations, operative and non-operative indications, patient selection, surgical technique, tips and tricks, post-operative care, and best practices.
Course Learning Objectives.
By the conclusion of the course, surgeons should be able to:
· Describe the indications for cervical and lumbar total disc replacement (TDR)
· Identify the critical differences between fusion and TDR indications and techniques
· Recognize the advantages of performing a full decompression, including direct decompression from an anterior approach
· Discuss the clinical evidence for motion preservation as a standard of care for Degenerative Disc Disease
